Good news -- Shakespeare in the Squares have just announced their eighth Summer season, to include a performance in Crescent Garden on Saturday July 5th. The not-for-profit touring company, seen here in last year's sell-out production of All's Well that Ends Well, is this year tackling another of the Bard's more problematic plays for modern sensibilities, The Taming of the Shrew, though with all the bells & whistles & other fun embellishments we have come to expect. Tickets go on sale soon so keep an eye on their website at, shakespeareinthesquares.co.uk.

Residents may remember that last year's pollarding was halted mid-way through after a dispute broke out about the felling of three plane trees. Renewed planning permission was subsequently granted but the decision was made to hold off doing it in the Summer when the trees are in full leaf & the operation therefore more hazardous. The work will now take place between 11th & 14th February.

A bit of good news amid the seasonal gloom -- because the weather has been so cold/rainy/ downright awful it's been decided to extend the life of the illuminations on the big tree. They were due to be taken down at the end of this month but now they'll be adding some much-needed sparkle to the Garden right through until the end of February!
